Volae

Volae was a Wisconsin recumbent-bicycle marque specialising in fast short-wheelbase highracers, touring models, travel frames, tandems, and carbon performance machines.
Company history
Hostel Shoppe founder Rolf Garthus established Volae in 2002 after years of fitting and customising recumbents for riders in Stevens Point. The first prototypes appeared in early 2003 and Vision built the initial production machines that June; Garthus then acquired the tooling and drawings and contracted Waterford Precision Cycles to weld and paint the steel frames. Volae developed a broad short-wheelbase range including the Tour, Century, Club, Team, Expedition, Voyageur, and Venture tandem, with Calfee Design producing carbon frames. Direct sales through Hostel Shoppe, careful rider fitting, S&S travel couplers, and dual-large-wheel highracer layouts became hallmarks of the brand.
