BMX riders Joe Rich and Taj Mihelich developed Terrible One in 1997 and established the brand in 1998. After an early start in Illinois, the company moved its base to Austin, Texas, where Rich continued shaping T-1 around limited-run products, personal design, and BMX culture rather than mass production. The brand remains closely associated with its founder and Austin roots.
