Swedish commercial-vehicle group with roots in Malmö's early bicycle industry.
Scania AB is a Swedish commercial-vehicle maker whose corporate predecessor began in Malmö as a bicycle manufacturer in 1900.
Company history
Maskinfabriksaktiebolaget Scania was established in Malmö in 1900 and acquired Humber & Co's Swedish bicycle operation, which had opened there in 1896. The company expanded into machinery and motor vehicles, then merged with Vabis in 1911 to form Scania-Vabis. The modern Scania group is headquartered in Södertälje and focuses on trucks, buses, and engines; its bicycle production belongs to its early corporate history.
