Sakae

Sakae logo

Sakae Ringyo, commonly branded SR or Sakae, was a major Japanese maker of aluminium bicycle cranksets, chainrings, stems, handlebars, seatposts, pedals, and related components.

Company history

Shiro Kobayashi founded Sakae Ringyo in Tokyo in January 1947. The company grew into an important original-equipment supplier as Japanese bicycles expanded internationally, earning particular recognition for forged aluminium cranksets, stems, handlebars, pedals, and SR Laprade seatposts. Product families included Custom, Royal, Apex, Silstar, Super Custom, and Sakae Ringyo's aerodynamic AX-series parts. In 1987 Sakae Ringyo established SR SUNTOUR and its Taiwan operation to make mid- and high-end aluminium bicycle components. It then acquired the SunTour name and remaining business after Maeda's failure; following Sakae Ringyo's acquisition by Mori Industries around 1989, its component lineage continued under the combined SR SUNTOUR identity.
