BikeE recumbents

BikeE was an Oregon recumbent-bicycle manufacturer whose approachable compact-long-wheelbase machines used an aluminium beam frame and sliding supportive seat to fit a wide range of riders.
Company history
Oregon State University mechanical-engineering professor David Ullman, designer Paul Atwood, and fabricator Richard Rau developed the BikeE in autumn 1992 and introduced production bicycles at the Portland Bicycle Show in March 1993, with Jim Boeder leading marketing. Their compact-long-wheelbase layout placed a moulded seat on an adjustable aluminium main beam and made recumbent riding comparatively easy to balance, fit, and distribute. The company expanded from the original CT into RoadE, FX, AT suspension, and E2 tandem models, won a 1997 Bicycling Editor's Choice award, and reached hundreds of dealers and export markets. BikeE became the largest United States recumbent producer before recalls, manufacturing and financial pressures preceded its August 2002 closure.
