Azuki

Azuki logo

Azuki was West Coast Cycle's secondary United States-market bicycle marque, using Japanese-built frames and a chrysanthemum identity during the 1970s bike boom.

Company history

West Coast Cycle Supply introduced Azuki in 1972 as a companion line to Nishiki. The name refers to the Japanese red bean, while the head badge used a stylised chrysanthemum. Early Azuki bicycles were produced in Japan by Kuwahara; later examples were associated with Kawamura, the Kobe manufacturer that also built Nishiki exports for West Coast Cycle. The United States trademark records first use in April 1972 and registration in 1974, covering bicycles and structural parts.
